What is LiveCast?

LiveCast is a service that enables you to stream live video from your phone to anyone connected to the Web.

Uploading video is a thing of the past. With a push of a button, LiveCast streams video from your phone to your video blog or homepage. Video streams are simultaneously archived on a server, so your friends, family or co-workers can watch live or any time they want from their phone or PC.

LiveCast lets you notify your contacts that you’re live “on air”, add tags to your videos, and track your videos using GPS online mapping. Welcome to a world of new possibilties with your 3G compatible phone!

LiveCast software has four main screens:

LIVECAST, SETTINGS, VIDEO INFO, and MY ACCOUNT

These areas are all accessible from the Options Menu on your phone.

The first time you use LiveCast, you'll want enter your log-in information, and go through each option to ensure the default settings are appropriate for you.

Subsequently, you can just go to the START option, and in a single step be streaming LiveCast video!

MY ACCOUNT

The first time you launch LiveCast software on your phone, go to MY ACCOUNT and enter your username and password.

You won’t actually login at this point.

Your information will be saved, and ready for your next LiveCast, so you won't have to re-enter it again unless it's changed.

SETTINGS is where you specify the default settings for your LiveCast.

Streaming Options:

  • Stream Only - LiveCast without saving the file on a server.
  • Stream & Archive - Automatically store your LiveCasts on a server (recommended default option).
  • Save Locally - Save the video locally on your phone, and stream it to the server later (useful for when you don't have adequate reception).

Stream A Locally Saved Video - If you chose the Save Locally option above, use this option to stream that video when you have good connectivity.

Mute Audio - You have an option to mute audio in your LiveCast and just transmit video.

Streaming Profile - Depending on the speed of your network and reception, you can select the appropriate bit rate.

VIDEO INFO

VIDEO INFO is where you can enter a title, tags, description and lots of other information about your LiveCast before you start streaming.

You can always add or edit video information later by simply going to your online LiveCast account
(MY ACCOUNT > Online Archives).

Streaming Profile - Depending on the speed of your network and reception, you can select the appropriate bit rate.

START

Here's the fun part! After you've input your login information, go to the LIVECAST screen and select START. It's that easy!

After your first LiveCast, you'll only need to press START for your subsequent LiveCasts - even if the phone has been shut down or battery has gone dead in between livecasts.

You can optionally enter a title first. If you don't, "username's LiveCast" will be automatically used. You can edit this at a later date.

SHARE

Once you're on the LiveCast application, you can select a contact or group of contacts and share your LiveCast with them.

They will be sent a link to your LiveCast via email or SMS.

You can also publish your LiveCast to your Webpage, Blog or YouTube from this button.

Start LiveCast

Select START from the LIVECAST tab to begin your LiveCast. This will change to STOP, to allow you to stop the LiveCast.

SETUP is where you specify the default settings for your streaming video.

Stream Options:

  • Stream Only - Stream live without saving the file on a server.
  • Stream and Archive - Automatically store streaming video file on a server (recommended default option).
  • Archive Locally - Save the video locally on your phone, and upload it to the server later (useful for when you don't have a network connection)

Video From File - Select this when you want to send a video that was recorded previously to a local archive. You must have connectivity before webcasting from a file.

Include Audio - You have an option to include audio in your LiveCast or just transmit video. If desired, you may use your Bluetooth headset as the audio-source.

Camera - If your phone has multiple cameras, choose which one you wish to use.

Profile - Depending on the speed of your network, you can select one of the options in the menu (e.g. UMTS, WiFi 128 Kbps).

Location Information - Choose whether to include Waypoints with the video.

Default Access Point - Select your desired connection.

Proxy Settings - We suggest No Proxy

Local Archive Storage - Where to store local archives.

VIDEO INFO

VIDEO INFO is where you can enter a title, tags, description and lots of other information about your Webcast before you start streaming.

You can always add or edit video information later, simply go to your LiveCast account (MY VIDEO > Title).

SELECT WAYPOINTS

If you choose to include location information in your LiveCast, select the closest waypoint available, by clicking through the regions.

START

Here's the fun part! After the first time you set up LiveCast with your login information, you can just go directly to START to begin LiveCast in one easy step.

Select the START option to begin your LiveCast. The option on the menu will change to STOP, to allow you to stop the LiveCast.

START

Once you're on the LiveCast application, you can select a person or group to notify.

They will be sent a link to the Webcast via email or SMS.

You can also publish your LiveCastto your LiveCast Page, Blog or YouTube from this button.

LiveCast users can manage all aspects of their account and content via their online account.

To manage your content and online account, login at www.[web server name].com.

(Mobile access at: http://[web server name]/m.)

Once you log-in, you'll land on the menu tab MY VIDEO.

Main menu options are:

  • My Video
  • Edit Live Page
  • My Account
  • My Contacts
  • Get Software
  • Advanced Tools

From the My Video tab, you can:

  • View all your saved videos in one convenient place.
  • Share videos, publish them to blogs and your website, or send a video link (SMS or email) to your contacts.
  • Setup your blogs and video sharing sites for live or auto posting.
  • Set up access levels for your video. Shared Videos can be viewed (live or on-demand) by others on your Live Page.
  • Edit tags, descriptions or other information, by clicking on the Edit link to go to the details page.
  • Set up privacy and access levels for your livecasts and Live Page.

Details

Add or edit information about your livecast including: Tags, Description, Creator, Copyright, Rating, Language, and Waypoints.

All your videos are automatically date and time stamped and have a unique ID number.

If you have GPS enabled, the GPS coordinates will be encoded into your video and will allow viewers to see the location of your livecast on a map. Alternatively you can select a Waypoint from the list provided if GPS is not available.

Statistics are displayed that show how many times your video has been viewed and downloaded. You can download any video to your PC by clicking on the download link.

When you sign up with LiveCast, you’ll get your own Live Page, where people can watch your live and saved videos. You can limit access to this page via password protection.

Send your contacts the link to your page, or you just send them a link to your live stream to watch on their mobile phone or computer.

If you have GPS enabled, and encoded in the video, viewers can track your streaming location on the adjacent map. If no GPS is available, you can use waypoints to denote your location.

CUSTOMIZE

Customize your Live Page with a title, logo, photo, and a message to your viewers. Additionally, you can add your name, and a link to another Website or blog.

This section shows you the links to your Live Page for both computer and mobile audiences.

Here you can set the password for your Live Page, and select whether the password protection is activated.

My Account provides you access to several areas dealing with your online account.

In this area you can:

  • edit your profile and account information
  • change your password
  • add/edit your blogs
  • view your account status
  • view your bandwidth and storage usage
  • set up a public profile that can be displayed in public showcases

MY CONTACTS is where you keep the names of people you want to notify that your are live ‘on air’, or to send a link to your saved videos.

You'll have the option to include their email address and/or an SMS number. You'll also be asked to select the preferred way to notify each contact.

Contact lists can be imported from MS Outlook CSV (Comma Separated Values) or MSN Messenger CTT format.

You can also create groups of contacts to make it easier to share with several people at once.
